Black & White Dresser Makeover- Painting a wooden dresser

I’m very excited to share with you my very first DIY furniture refinish! Since I moved in with Jake I have been working slowly but surely to turn his home from a bachelor pad to a home.  We have made a lot of transformations from redoing the downstairs bathroom to adding paint and color to the walls.  However with all the work we have done so far, not one room seems to be completely done. So I’ve made it my mission to start pulling these rooms together! I will be posting pics of my projects and the finished rooms as they are done. We have a 4 bedroom home and well, there are only 2 of us so its been kinda fun to make each room its own. Jake has an office, I have my office/makeup room and there is the spare bedroom I like to call the “Cat’s Room”. The Cat Room is the biggest eyesore. Its basically all the leftover mismatched furniture thrown in one room. Jake has an old dresser in there that was the worst. You know it was one of those old brown ones with the bronzy looking handles. It didn’t match anything whatsoever so I decided to make it my mission to make it look spiffier.

I forgot to take a pic with all the drawers in it, but I remembered just before I went to work on it to capture it in it’s ugliness.

Oh ugly brown dresser,
you won’t be missed…at all.

It took me awhile working on it here and there when I got the time but here is the finished dresser in all it’s glory!

I am STOKED with the way it turned out! I think I surprised Jake too. He should have know better to underestimate my artistic skills! He loves it so much now he wants me to do the other dresser in the Cat Room the same way…hmmm I feel a lot of projects coming on! I think he should buy me a sander for all my work, what do you guys think?!

I’ve had a lot of inspiration from other blogs and have researched and learned a lot about painting and redoing furniture a lot lately. I already have plans to paint my brown standing jewelry armoire and I bought a fabulous piece from a thrift store last weekend that will be a big project. Also on my list is to reupholster a chair! That one I’m particularly excited about. I will be sharing them all with you! Please comment and send any thoughts! I hope you enjoy!

My Sweet Emmy
