DIY Window Picture- Make an old window into a unique way to display a photo

DIY Picture Window using an old window

You Guys…..I can’t tell you how much I LOVE this!! You have probably seen this idea before & if you are wanting to do one of your own, I encourage you to do it! It’s inexpensive, easy and it looks so unique!

I used this tutorial for my own!

I found an old window by expressing my interest in a post on KC Pinterest Addicts Swap and Shop group on Facebook. So i would suggest searching a local group page similar to this if you don’t live in the Kansas City area or looking on Craigslist. I also know that some places in the West Bottoms on First Fridays or thrift stores might have old windows. Old windows and doors seem to be quite popular!

I bought my window for $20. It was a good heavy window from the 50’s. It was dirty, oh so dirty….like gross so I spend some time cleaning it up first. Then I searched through my garage for some left over paint. You don’t need a nice paint for this project, I repeat…don’t go buy some fancy paint…very unnecessary. Unless of course you want it to look all perfect but my goal was to make it look distressed, rough, and old.

For that distressed, rough and old look I used Valspar’s Antiquing Wax. For this look, it is a MUST! So easy, just paint it on, wipe it off.

Get your picture printed at Staples for $5….yes $5!!!  Ask for an engineering print on paper!

Make sure when you are lining up your pic to your window that you don’t have part of the window going through your faces! I had to adjust mine over a bit so that didn’t happen. I printed my picture a little larger than the exact measurement of my glass so I had some wiggle room for adjustments. Make sure you use a tape measure or ruler and account for cutouts between your panes. I just used Scotch tape to tape into place.

What do you guys think? I’m kind of in love with it! This replaced my TV that was on my fireplace mantel. We mounted it to the wall instead, and I’d say its a much better trade off! Read my other blogs about my DIY TV stand and hiding my cords.

Have you tried this? I’d love to see how yours turned out!

Cheers,

Lesley Leanne
