Hello Friends!
It’s been less than a few weeks since we’ve spent our “babymoon” in Florida & I’m already missing the beach! The beach has always been where my heart is & I hate that I live so dang far away. Maybe someday we will have our own condo or retire there but until then we will just have to keep taking trips!
After agonizing over not taking Emmy with us (I felt total mom guilt) we ultimately decided to take a trip with no kids while we had the chance. I STILL feel a little bad about not bringing her to the beach (omg she would’ve LOVED it) but I know how important it is to take time for yourselves. Baby will be here before we know it, then hello Denny party of 4! Despite the guilt we had a wonderful trip! I came home with a mega tan, a face full of freckles, & lots of memories!
WHAT WE DID: (in a nutshell) Beach, eat, sleep, shop, eat, explore, repeat… throw in a little miniature golf, driving around in a golf cart, & some card games… & a crap load of picture taking (sorry hubbies, but we HAD to capture the preggo moments including a sunset maternity shoot we MADE the guys partake in using only our Android phones & Pinterest inspired images ha) But we were pleasantly surprised by our photos & will make for some great memories, plus a lot of funny ones! If you want all the deets, read on, if not just cruise thru the fun pics…hey I don’t judge.
OUR CONDO: Panama City was kind of a last minute trip, without much time to plan ahead. We originally wanted to go to Destin but it was pretty booked up & the deciding factor was not only the money & availability but the fact that we didn’t have to rent a car because we flew into Panama City regardless. So we only had to take an Uber to our resort which was less than 20 mins away. We did an airbnb condo which was inside a resort called Edgewater Beach & Golf Resort. You can book thru the resort itself & have access to ALL amenties or book thru an owner like we did thru airbnb. We still got access to the pools, just had to pay a fee IF you wanted to use the tennis courts, fitness center etc. Ironically we chose this resort because it had golf on site (for our hubbies…we went with Jake’s oldest brother & his wife who is due just a month after me!) BUT to our surprise they didn’t golf the whole time we were there! A basic condo with everything we needed…that I’d recommend to others for the price! It didn’t sit on the beach but all you have to do is call for a tram & a golf cart picks you up & takes you to the beach in just a few mins or anywhere else on the resort you wanted to go. I knew this would be super helpful for us preggos! We went to Wal-Mart the first day & ate in our condo for breakfast & lunch. Got a $10 beach umbrella & $15 boogie board & we were set! A nice king bed, tv, washer & dryer, bathtub, balcony facing tennis court & pool…
THE RESORT: It’s a good size resort (hence the trams) with a huge pool & splash park area for kiddos next to beach with smaller pools throughout, a fitness center, tennis, golf, spa, restaurant, etc. You don’t have to leave your resort if you really don’t want to. We rented a golf cart one day & they wouldn’t let us park in inside the resort which was ridiculous just FYI if you stay there. And I totally recommend renting one & tooling around Panama City for the day!
THE BEACH: The beach at our resort was pretty nice. Not SUPER crowded but definitely a lot of people & it was beneficial to get there early to set up a spot. The water was blueish green except for 1 day it was brown & waves a little rough. The other days we got some light waves & could do a little boogie boarding which the guys loved. Nice soft sand!
PANAMA CITY BEACH: Touristy, party townish, lots of construction, your basic beach tourist city with surf shops, souvenirs, mini golf, etc. I expected that…. Did i love it? No. Did I hate it? No. I’d go back again on another last minute trip BUT I’d rather go somewhere else. Don’t get me wrong we had a GREAT vacation! Go to Pier Park for some fun shopping & definitely go eat at Schooner’s!
DESTIN: Ah Destin…. we did have a car our last day of the trip & decided to see what we were missing out on in Destin…. We stopped at Destin Commons for a bit of shopping then spent the afternoon at Henderson State Beach Park. FANTASTIC beach! So pretty, sand so soft, water was perfect & not overcrowded. (It WAS a Monday) One of the best beaches I’ve been to in Florida. I totally recommend! We explored some fun shops at Harbour Walk Village where I couldn’t refrain from getting some cotton candy & being a basic tourist. We ended the day eating at a recommended (thanks to my FB peeps) Surf Hut eating some fish tacos & key lime pie while the sun went down & playing bags (or cornhole…whatever you choose to call it depending how country you are..) Not sure why but I’m really good at this game…husband thinks I sneak out to play at night hehehehe) If you go to Destin, have the taco trio at the Surf Hut! This was my favorite day on our vacation. It was still touristy, but not quite like Panama City…nicer, more spread out, more family oriented. I’m already planning our trip for 2019….
You did us right Florida…until next time….
