Disney On Ice

Disney on Ice at the Kansas City Sprint Center

We had the wonderful opportunity to take Emersyn to see Disney on Ice at the Sprint Center here in KC. We had such a great experience I thought I needed to share all the fun & tips I have if you plan on going.

Disney on Ice at the Kansas City Sprint Center

If you’ve read my last post “Mommin’ Ain’t Easy”, then you should know I feel as though I’ve totally redeemed myself as a parent! This was the 1st event of this nature that we’ve attempted to take Emmy to & I’m happy to say she loved it! She just turned 2 & well some things are just a crap shoot on whether they are going to hold a toddler’s attention.

Luckily all the singing, lights, & skating, which included skits from Frozen, Tangled, Beauty and The Beast, Moana & Cinderella, captured her attention & she didn’t stop waving goodbye to the characters until we were almost home! And I gotta say as an adult I quite enjoyed it too! (as well as my husband)

I’m not sure how often Disney on Ice comes around, I’m assuming once per year but I thought I’d share with you my experience at the Sprint Center here in KC & any tips for someone who is interested in going!

  1. Tickets- I found it’s a little bit cheaper to go on a weeknight vs. the weekend. The cheapest tickets were $15. Kids at age 2+ need a ticket (even though they don’t often sit in them but that’s the rules) Expect a bunch of extra charges too! We paid close to $75 for 3 tickets buying the cheapest ones with all the extra fees etc. Our seats were great! The saying is that there isn’t a bad seat at the Sprint Center. Unless you are obviously wanting front row or to be close, but our seats were perfectly fine we could see everything. We printed our tickets off at home.
  2. Parking- Sprint Center has parking garages & I honestly think I’ve paid for parking for every event I’ve attended there. I’m sure you can find a spot of the road if you are lucky but I would just expect to pay for parking. $10 & it’s a short walk to the entrance. I think we parked in the garage at close to a quarter till the show started & we were in & seated by the start of the show.
  3. Souvenirs- They sell princess wands & such for a discounted price in carts on the street as you are walking into the venue. They are cheaper than they are inside but I’m not sure if you have as much of a variety to choose from. We didn’t buy any this time. Next year I’m sure will be different!
  4. Concessions– I have a thing for cotton candy! A bag costs $15! It did come with a gold Mickey Mouse ears crown. Hubby came back with a soda in a take home Disney cup for $10. So yeah, that’s $25 for cotton candy & a drink….. I may or may not have eaten almost the whole bag of cotton candy by myself… apparently Emersyn doesn’t like it, hey more for Mama! So IF you plan on buying concessions and/or souvenirs bring some $$$!
  5. Packing a bag– This brings me to my next point. I’d definitely bring snacks if you don’t plan on splurging. They SAY you can’t bring in any outside food or drink but they literally glanced inside of my purse without going through it. Plus you can always hide snacks in your pockets or dare I say your boots if you get desperate! I’d keep it small (I brought Goldfish crackers but forgot the water in Emmy’s car seat which led to us buying a drink) Just in case I wouldn’t bring anything in you couldn’t bare to lose in case you are instructed to toss it. They also say no backpacks.
  6. Clothing- It does get a little chilly in there, but not too bad. I found that wearing a coat was too much. I brought one of those cape/shaw thingies & it was perfect. I also brought a small blanket that was nice to have but not completely necessary if you are dressed warm enough. A lot of little girls are dressed up wearing princess costumes so they might get cold. Emmy isn’t into that quite yet so she was dressed in pants, boots & sweatshirt & was ok.
  7. Show– The show was approx. 2 hours with a short intermission in between. Hubby got our concessions about 10 mins BEFORE intermission started so there wasn’t long lines! Getting out of the Sprint Center & heading home was a breeze, no big traffic to fight.

I hope that gives you some insight on going to Disney on Ice at the Sprint Center! My last piece of advice would be to take a few pictures but then put your phone away & enjoy being in the moment with your kid/s. I plan on making this a yearly tradition for Emersyn & hope it’s something she will really look forward to each year!

My Sweet Emmy
