Home for the Holidays

Hope you all had a great holiday! I can’t believe Christmas has come and gone, but I think I say that every year. (I think that’s a sign of getting older) It was fun seeing the family in particular this year since I’m pregnant and I hadn’t seen most of them since then, so seeing their reactions was fun.  Jake and I also celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary right before Christmas.

One thing is for sure, our families are getting bigger and growing so things are starting to change! It’s hard to get everyone together at the same time like it used to be but I guess we just have to adapt accordingly. Still my favorite thing to do is be at my mom’s to celebrate Christmas! It doesn’t matter if it’s Christmas Eve, Christmas day or the weekend before or after, what matters is that we are spending time together as a family.

Being at my mom’s is just HOME you know? I love everything about it, the smell, the decor, the feeling I get when I’m there.  Also my mother LOVES Christmas like I do and I swear she could be a professional Christmas decorator, although I don’t think she has as much faith in herself as I do and I have no idea why. Seriously I think when she retires she might need to do this for a side gig. She definitely had some good practice last year for my “Christmas glamour” wedding as I liked to call it. It was perfect in every way.

Right before Christmas I spent some time with my mom having a baking day. We didn’t do the traditional sugar cookies, however we couldn’t pass up making my Grandma Hazel’s famous peanut butter balls. We wanted to throw a few across the room before we got done dipping, (who the heck has the patience for this?!) but we mustered through!

Our extended family got together the weekend before Christmas and the immediate family spent Christmas Eve together. We had SO…MUCH..GOOD….FOOD! I made my pregnant self pretty miserable the first time and ended up at Price Chopper at 11pm getting Gaviscon for acid reflux but I was still kept awake half the night. I was better on Christmas Eve…learned my lesson! My sister made an awesome buffalo chicken dip, another sister made a delicious chocolate pie, I made a white chocolate cranberry cake….ugh…so many goodies it was hard to stop!

Jake and I are so lucky that all our family lives relatively close. We spent time with his family on Christmas day, first at his mom’s, then to Grammy’s, and lastly to Mamaw’s. We figured we might as well while we didn’t have the little one just yet! Next year and the following years will probably be different but I’m more excited than ever for Lil Bear’s 1st Christmas and the years to come!

Happy Holidays everyone!

My Sweet Emmy
